While many different projects among the whole country are carried out with several different aims and goals – mainly to sensibilize children of preschool (and not only) to live greener, the reality sometimes contrasts with the theory. A custom in Italy that has become established over the years and in environments such as schools, requires children, who should be educated to respect the environment, to drink and throw away the glass for ‘hygienic reasons’. Each child throws away an average of 3-4 plastic cups a day, and what is worse is that they learn that this habit is right and without consequences. Doing a quick calculation that is certainly an underestimate, this means that each school throws away 250 cups every day (3 per child x 21 children x 4 classes). 250 x 67 educational units = 16,750 plastic cups per day, 335,000 per month, 2,680,000 plastic cups each school year… and that is certainly a terrible figure, however roughly calculated.
Regarding entrepreneurship and especially green entrepreneurship, Italy seems to lack in good practices and initiatives. While some more initiatives seem to take place in primary and secondary school, there appear to be no projects connected to the topic for children in kindergarten age.
While the law foresees specific professionals, supporting children in school and preschool and contributing also to a bilingual environment where possible, the reality of everyday life is that deaf children are often excluded anyways due to a lack of initiatives, support from teachers and specialists and in general from the social support net that should provide the necessary tools and competences to each of the involved people to ensure maximum success.
